Why Queensland Reserves Plumbing for Licence Holders
Plumbing and drainage work in Queensland sits behind two licence layers: an occupational licence for the individual performing it, and a contractor licence for the business carrying it out. The QBCC grants both. The occupational licence proves the holder is competent in the trade, and the contractor licence shows the QBCC has checked the firm can run jobs and stand behind them.
Three classes matter to householders:
- A plumber's licence covers plumbing work, apart from tasks that carry a separate endorsement.
- A drainer's licence covers drainage below ground level.
- Gas work is its own class, held by licensed gasfitters, and covers everything on a gas system from installation through to certification.
Our gas fitters hold that class in full.

Who Checks Plumbing Work and What You Receive
Two bodies do the checking here: the QBCC, which licenses the trade and records notifiable jobs, and the local council, which assesses applications, issues permits and inspects. Brisbane City Council fills that council role for this suburb.
The paperwork you end up holding depends on the work done:
- After notifiable work, you receive a copy of the Form 4, and the QBCC will provide one on request if it never turns up.
- After gas work on a new install or alteration, the gasfitter hands you a gas system compliance certificate straight away and sends a copy to the gas network operator within 5 days.
You can also search the QBCC's online registers to confirm any plumber's licence, or to see whether a Form 4 has been lodged for your address. An owner can request a council inspection of notifiable work while it is under way, with the occupier's consent, within 1 year of the notice.

Diagnose, Quote, Repair and Test
- 1

You tell us what's wrong
A call or a quick message starts it. We ask what you can see, hear or smell, and anything you know about the pipes behind it.
- 2

We diagnose and quote on site
The plumber traces the fault at your place, then talks you through it. You'll see a fixed quote before any work starts, with flat-rate pricing and no hidden fees, and nothing begins until you approve the figure.
- 3

We do the work and test it
The repair or installation goes ahead as quoted. Everything gets checked at the end, because a job isn't finished until the taps, drains or appliances behave under real use.
- 4

You get the paperwork
Any Form 4 or gas compliance certificate lands with you, and you pay by card or EFTPOS on site once the work is done. Fix now, pay later is there if you'd rather spread it.
Questions People Ask Before Booking
Call (07) 3523 6484What is the difference between a plumber and a drainer?
The scope of the licence. A plumber's licence covers the pipework and fixtures inside and around the home, minus anything needing its own endorsement. A drainer's licence covers the below-ground drainage running out to the sewer, which is what drain repairs and renewals call for.
Does gas work in a Hamilton home need a separate licence?
Yes, gas work belongs to licensed gasfitters and nobody else in Queensland may do it. That includes installing, repairing, servicing and certifying a gas system. Before any gas job begins, you're entitled to ask us to show the gas work licence.
Who inspects plumbing work in a Hamilton home?
Brisbane City Council issues the permits and carries out inspections, and you can ask for a council inspection while the work is under way. The QBCC licenses the trade and keeps the records. Urban Utilities looks after the public mains and sewer beyond your boundary.
What does QBCC licensed mean for my plumbing job?
QBCC licensed means the QBCC has issued our licences, QBCC No: 15024607, covering both the occupational and the contractor side. We say licensed rather than certified, because certified is not the register's term. You can check any plumber's standing in the QBCC's online registers at any time.
